ATLANTA, GA. – The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Commissioner Mike Dudgeon as Chairman and Commissioner Lina Millan as Vice-Chairwoman.

Commissioner Dudgeon brings a wealth of experience and dedication to education and public service. He previously served on the Forsyth County Board of Education, as a State Representative in the Georgia House, and as Policy Director for Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan. Dudgeon's commitment to Georgia’s youth is evident in his extensive community involvement, including his role as a foster parent and his active participation in the Boy Scouts and several non-profit foundation boards​​.

Commissioner Millan is an accomplished OBGYN in Athens, GA. She is an Advisory Council Member for the Georgia OBGYN Society and holds board certifications and memberships in several medical associations. Her role as an Associate Professor at Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership and involvement in higher education advocacy in Georgia further exemplify her commitment to the community​​.

The SCSC extends its deepest gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Commissioner Buzz Brockway, and Vice-Chairman, Commissioner Tony Lowden, for their exceptional leadership and dedicated service. Both will continue to offer their valuable expertise and insight as board members.

The SCSC looks forward to a new chapter under the leadership of Chairman Dudgeon and Vice-Chairwoman Millan, as they continue to uphold the Commission's vision of fostering innovative and superior charter schools throughout Georgia.

The mission of the SCSC is to improve public education by authorizing high-quality charter schools that provide students with better educational opportunities than they would otherwise receive in traditional district schools. The SCSC has the power to approve or deny petitions for state charter schools and renew, non-renew, or terminate state charter school petitions in accordance with Georgia law.
